Privacy at GoVallecito
The short version: we collect almost nothing, we don't track you across the web, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Here's the honest, plain-English detail.
Last updated June 2026. GoVallecito.com is an independently run community site for Vallecito Lake, Colorado.
What we collect
- Nothing, just for browsing. Reading the site sets no tracking cookies and asks for no personal information. We don't run advertising networks or social-media trackers.
- The contact form. If you choose to use the contact form, it sends the name, email, and message you type. We use that only to read and reply. We don't add you to a mailing list or sell it.
- The newsletter (The Lake Report). If you sign up, your email address is stored with our sending provider (Resend) solely to send you the newsletter, along with the month you optionally tell us you're visiting (kept only to time what we send). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can ask us to remove you anytime. We never sell it or use it for anything else.
- Anonymous usage counts. We keep simple aggregate numbers — total page views, and how many times a partner's “call / website / directions” button is tapped — to understand what's useful. These are plain integer totals with no personal data: no IP address, no device fingerprint, no cookie, nothing that identifies you.
- Questions you type to Val. If you type a free-text question to Val (our on-site guide), that question is processed by an AI service (Anthropic) to write the answer, and it is stored (question text plus a truncated technical identifier and coarse region — never your address or identity) to improve the site's answers.
The third parties involved
To run a small site we rely on a few reputable services. We've kept the list short on purpose.
- Web3Forms — delivers the contact form to our inbox. When you submit the form, your name, email, and message pass through Web3Forms (a US service) to reach us. See the Web3Forms privacy policy. We don't use the form for anything but replying to you.
- Resend — delivers The Lake Report newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address is stored with Resend (a US service) solely to send the newsletter; every issue includes a one-click unsubscribe. See the Resend privacy policy.
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and provides cookieless web analytics. Cloudflare's analytics record aggregate figures only (page views, rough country, device type) and set no cookies and no cross-site identifiers — there's no per-visitor profile, which is why you won't see a cookie banner.
- Google — the conditions page embeds one Google My Maps frame (the fire-district station map). Loading that map shares your IP address with Google, as any embedded Google map does. It's the only Google component on the site; we use no Google Analytics or Google Fonts.
- Anthropic — when you ask Val a free-text question, the question text is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate the answer. We send only the question — no name, no IP, no identifiers. See the Anthropic privacy policy.
The live conditions themselves come from public agencies (National Weather Service, USGS, USBR/USACE, NIFC, CDOT, LPEA, NASA). Those are data we fetch from them — we don't send them anything about you.
Cookies
We use no tracking or advertising cookies. Your browser may store a little data on your device to make the site work — for example, the last-known conditions so the dashboard isn't blank on a slow connection, and the offline “install as an app” cache. That data stays on your device, contains no personal information, and you can clear it any time from your browser settings.
How long we keep things
Contact-form messages live in our email inbox and are kept at our discretion so we can follow up — there's no automated database. The aggregate counts are just running totals with nothing personal in them.
Your choices & deletion requests
Because we don't build profiles, there's very little to request — but if you've emailed us and want your message deleted from our inbox, just ask. Send a deletion request through the contact page (mention “privacy / delete my message”) and we'll remove it. Colorado and California residents have rights under the Colorado Privacy Act and CPRA to access or delete personal data a business holds about them; for us that's limited to anything you sent via the contact form, and the same request covers it.
Children
This is a general-audience community site and isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
