Two days, or stretch it to three. Base yourself at the lake — cabins, lodges, and RV parks ring it (where to stay; summer weekends book out, so reserve ahead).
Settle in, then an easy afternoon: rent a kayak or SUP at the marina, cast from the wheelchair-accessible fishing pier, and dinner at the Weminuche Woodfire Grill.

Hike into the Weminuche Wilderness — Colorado's largest — from the north-end trailheads. Check the trail guide for distances, trail numbers, and the current flood cautions, and go early to beat the July–August afternoon storms.
Vallecito has more history than a lake its size should. Walk the carvings, read the 2002 Missionary Ridge fire and the Alan Wyatt memorial, the October 2025 flood, or the old high-country gold camp at Tuckerville. It's all collected on the Stories hub.
