Winter is Vallecito's quiet season — fewer people, real snow (about 85 inches a year at the dam), and a different kind of day. Know before you go: see what's actually open and how winter access works.
Snowshoe wherever the snow's good, or ski the flat. The Vallecito Nordic Club grooms about 15 km (roughly 9 miles) of trails off FR 603, below the Old Timers day-use area (a PRID land-use fee applies).

When the ice is safe, anglers fish the lake through the winter. New to hard water? Go with a pro — Fisher Guide Service runs guided ice-fishing trips ((970) 769-0669). You'll still need a Colorado license + PRID permit (permits).
