Vallecito Lake stays open in winter. County Road 501 is a Level 1 plow priority, and the Country Market and Elk Point Lodge stay open year-round. The public boat ramp closes after October 31, as do the Forest Service campgrounds. Ice fishing and about 15 km of Nordic trails groomed by the Vallecito Nordic Club carry the cold months.
Most of the lake runs on a summer clock, and plenty closes for the season. Here's the straight answer on what's open, what's not, and what to check — so a winter trip is a good idea instead of a cold surprise.

Ice fishing
When the ice sets up, anglers fish Vallecito through the winter, and the VCSA ice-fishing tournament runs in February — the biggest cold-season event on the lake (details). Guided hard-water trips are available through Fisher Guide Service, (970) 769-0669. You still need a Colorado fishing license and a PRID permit (permits). Never trust lake ice without local confirmation — we don't report ice thickness.
Nordic skiing & snow travel
